The first glow of dawn has allowed us to distinguish the hills from the sky. It seems like an eternity to reach land. From what i can see the coast looks far more rugged than i had expected. It might be a challenge to take control of this part of the coast line.

Its Dark, almost pitch black. We have left the battleship and are now crammed in a small tow boat. Orders require us to keep greatcoats stowed away in our packs and wear tunics with sleeves rolled to the elbow so that flashes of white skin could give easier identification during the dawn assault. Dressed so lightly we are freezing and unable to move to restore circulation due to the lack of room we have on the small boat, what space that was not filled by the men was taken up by ammunition, food, sandbags and water. It has finally set in that i might die during this battle. I might never get to see my family or friends again.
the visibility is low due to the mist that surrounds the sea.

Its 1:15 am. I have just finished my hot meal and drink. Everybody seems to be tense. No one is allowed to speak. The only sounds i can hear is the orders given out by my commanding officer and the shuffling of boots. We cannot make to much noise or the Turks will become aware of our location.
The night is very still, hardly a breath of wind. It seems to make everything even more tense. I am nervous but also exited. Hopefully i can get through this.

After 7 long months of sailing in our battleship ‘Prince of Wales’, we finally have Gallipoli in our sites we might be about 6 km out from Turkish shores. When i joined the army i did not think i would have missed everyone at home as much as i did, but i have enjoyed the adventure so far. Now we must wait till tomorrow for the battle to begin i am not sure why or how we will go about fighting the Turkish but i am sure some of the men will have a stragegy under there sleaves. We are to be awoken at 1:30 am to get ready for the battle. I am a bit nervous but eager to get out their and fight for the Allies.

The theme I have chosen is a ANZAC New Zealand soilder fighting along side Australia in World War 2 against the Germans & Turkish in Gallipoli in the year 1915. I will talk about him leaving his family and friends.
The purpose of this blog is to try and portray what it is like to be fighting in World War 2 and how the living contiditions compare to what it is like back home.
My intended audiance people who have family or friends that were in the war so they can get and understanding of what it is like to be apart of the war particulary ‘The Battle of Gallipoli’. I believe people will look at this site because it will interest them in reading a soldier’s diary.
I have chosen to write with a formal language because it was not common to use slang back then. i choose not to use that much technology because computers were not invented at this time. it will just be a log of what he is feeling, what is effecting him and what world events are happening around him.
I will use all these features in my folio because it will help me portray the war and his feelings in a better way.
